In some ways the two stories are very similar. They both deal with a breakdown of civilization once a traumatic accident leaves them stranded. The descent into savagery is also a similarity, as well as they both have characters who are left overwhelmed at the lack of humanity in the end.
As far as being Golding's "literary son", this is a judgement call. They are alike, but I don't think I would go that far.
