What are the themes in "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman?

One of the major themes in "Song of Myself" is Whitman's celebration to the spiritual connections he believes ties him to other human beings, to nature, and to the universe.



“For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.”



He also ponders over themes dealing with political, philosophical, spiritual, and social ideas.  It explores the nature of human condition such as "who is man?"  In examine the connection of himself to the all things in the universe, Whitman also celebrates the unique nature of the individual.  He also deals with human sexuality:



“I believe in the flesh and the appetites”
