How do the writing style and structure of The Road link to the moral and emotional power ofthe book?

In the book The Road the narrator does not give off an overly emotional tone.  Instead he leads the reader on a journey along the road with the boy and his father.  The mother takes her own life because she can not cope any longer, but the author is not condescending of her actions which have left her husband and son alone.

The moral in the book comes in to play when the reader learns that the people have been housed for food and that cannibalism has become a way of life for many people.  The boy and his father in conversation share that it is one choice they will not make.  They will not eat another human being.

The powers of the emotions are exposed through the man and boy’s thoughts and conversations.  The man we know lives for his son and goes on down the road in hope that something somewhere will be better for his son.  The author uses words well top paint the desolate landscape that surrounds the two as they travel on foot.
