Mathilde in "The Necklace" is a dynamic character. Whether you judge her negatively before she loses the necklace (as greedy and selfish, etc.) or if you view her with more understanding (a frustrated artist-type), she still undergoes significant change after she loses the necklace.
Being a woman in a man's world, she does not have much earning power, but she puts what she has to use, cuts expenses, and spends ten years repaying the debt. When she happens upon the friend that originally lent her the necklace, Mathilde
...smiled with proud and childish joy.
Working and scraping by and working some more is not something Mathilde would have been proud of ten years earlier. She certainly is a dynamic character.
