Teotihuacan, the capital of the Aztec empire, had a few natural agricultural advantages going for it. One, it was situated next to swamplands with abundant water and fertile soil in flatlands that were ideal for farming. The Aztecs had fairly sophisticated irrigation systems that showed the advanced nature of their technology at the time.
Maize (corn), Amaranth (a grain), cactus and beans were grown in great quantities with these advantages, not just because of the climate and water supply, but because these crops were easily dried and stored, and were easy to cultivate and grow.
